We
lose a large part of every day to “Faulty Solenoid” Syndrome. A solenoid switch is a simple electro- magnetic device – a cylindrical magnet inside an electrical coil. When power is fed to the coil, the magnet changes polarity and slides through the coil. As soon as the power is switched off, the magnet returns to its original position. Solenoid "on-off" switches are all around us, every day. They're used in electrical appliances, motor vehicles, buildings, computers – they're everywhere! Like most mechanical devices, they’re great when they work.
But if they fail, the entire system grinds to a halt. If you’ve ever had a solenoid
switch fail, you’ll recognise the symptoms. It can’t decide whether it should be open or shut. So it sits in the centre of the coil, neither open nor shut, vibrating furiously, creating friction, heat, noise and smoke. If you neglect it, it can catch fire. It can’t be fixed. It’s useless. You have no choice but to replace it. Sadly, most people are like faulty solenoid switches for much of their lives. |
